Romney capta a otro importante donante de Christie

POLITICO.com:
Paul Singer, the financier who’s one of the biggest “gets” in the Republican bundler community and was among those hoping for a Chris Christie campaign, has committed to Mitt Romney — promising to tap his vast donor network and move to get others off the sidelines, POLITICO has learned.

The support from Singer came a day after Christie made clear he will not be part of the 2012 race.

(...) The Elliott Associates executive, who was one of Rudy Giuliani’s top bundlers in 2007 and who has become one of the biggest Republican donors nationally over the last several years, has been a coveted “get” for 2012 for months.

POLITICO listed him prominently on a list of top ten donors still up for grabs in the presidential race several weeks ago. Singer, the chairman of the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think-tank, brings policy chops and a lengthy list of contacts to the table.

Singer began his work immediately by notifying his network of donors explaining why he’s supporting Romney, according to several individuals who had heard from him.

In a note explaining his decision, according to a source who was updated by him, Singer wrote, “I have held back as the presidential election landscape has taken shape over a period of months. At this time, however, the field is set. We know the pool of candidates from which the Republican nominee will emerge. And in my judgment the best choice is Mitt Romney.”
