Drama: Romney es pariente de FDR

The New York Times:
Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, George H.W. Bush and, you guessed it, George W. Bush all share a distant ancestor and political affiliation with Mr. Romney. Mr. Romney also is distantly related to two Democratic presidents, Franklin Pierce and Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose presence on his family tree may add to the worry among some on the right about Mr. Romney’s conservative credentials.

By way of Anne Marbury Hutchinson, a prominent colonial activist who championed religious freedom in the mid-17th century, Mr. Romney is a 10th cousin once removed to George H.W. Bush, 10th cousin twice removed to George W. Bush and an eighth cousin twice removed to Roosevelt. Thomas Richardson, an English landowner who lived in the late 1500s, makes Mr. Romney 10th cousins to Coolidge and Hoover.

Mrs. Hutchinson also provides a link between Mr. Romney and former Gov. Jon M. Huntsman Jr. of Utah, a rival for the Republican nomination. It turns out the two are 10th cousins once removed, through which Mr. Huntsman is related to three of the four presidents on his own family tree. Calvin Coolidge is the Mr. Huntsman’s 7th cousin, three times removed.

Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is the only other Republican candidate with a presidential pedigree, as he and Harry Truman are fifth cousins, four times removed. Should his credentials as a Texan ever come into question, he can point to his first cousin six times removed, Sam Houston, the legendary statesman and soldier who served as president of Texas when it existed as its own republic.
