Ann Romney will celebrate her 63rd birthday in Virginia, raising money for her husband.
Romney, wife of presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, will be the star of a swing state fundraiser Monday in Northern Virginia.
About 150 people are expected at the women-only event hosted by Marlene Malek, wife of Republican fundraiser Fred Malek, and philanthropist Catherine Reynolds. The sold-out event will take place at the Maleks’ home in McLean, which boasts one of the top zip codes in the nation for political donations.
Virginia’s first lady, Maureen McDonnell, whose husband is rumored to be on Romney’s possible VP list, is expected to attend.
Ann Romney, who has battled multiple sclerosis, has been a popular figure on the campaign trail. She made headlines Wednesday for taking to Twitter to refute a criticism that she “never worked a day in her life.”
Pete Snyder, chairman of the Va Victory 2012 campaign — the GOP’s coordinated campaign — said the event will bring in more than $300,000 — expected to be the largest amount ever for a Republican candidate’s wife.
