Se agota el plazo para desafiar a Obama en las primarias

Jim Geraghty:
A reader asks for the absolute final deadline for any Democrat to challenge Barack Obama in the 2012 Democratic presidential primary. On the Democratic side, the first primary that is certain is Florida, on Tuesday, January 31.

In the Florida Secretary of State’s handbook for candidates hoping to qualify for federal office:

Each political party, other than a minor political party, shall submit a list to the Secretary of State of its presidential candidates to be placed on the presidential preference primary ballot, or candidates entitled to have delegates appear on the presidential preference primary ballot, by October 31, 2011.

That’s in 21 days. At this point, three pretty much completely unknown figures are in the process of running on the Democratic party label in the state of Florida: Raphael Herman, Ryan Adam Lipner, and Shawn O’Brien.

According to FEC records, Herman has loaned his campaign $10 million. Of course, considering how Herman reportedly claims to have gotten into knife fights with Osama bin Laden, perhaps his statements should be taken with a grain of salt.
