Patriots, Entrepreneurs, Explorers y Pilots

Rick Perry, the Texas governor, has been in the presidential race for all of one day, but he is already promising his top donors perks for a Republican National Convention that will not be held for more than a year.

In a brochure sent on Saturday to his top fund-raisers and donors, Mr. Perry seeks to recruit four tiers of top “bundlers” to solicit checks from friends, business associates and family members. Each tier — Patriots, who raise $500,000 for Mr. Perry; Entrepreneurs, who raise $250,000; Explorers, who raise $100,000; and Pilots, who raise $50,000 — are granted exclusive privileges and benefits.

For Patriots, the most elite tier, Mr. Perry offers an “invitation to a special reward event,” regular access to top campaign officials, and something called the “the V.I.P. Republican National Convention Package,” which “includes hospitality suite and V.I.P. reception at the convention.” (...)
