The Indianapolis Star:
Gov. Mitch Daniels says he is receiving more calls urging him to get into the race for president, but will not change his mind.

(...) Daniels, speaking to reporters this morning, said he was “aware of the noise” but will not rethink his decision.

“I never wanted to run, never planned to run,” Daniels said.

But he said the Republican National Convention, scheduled for August in Tampa, may be a contested or brokered convention, something not seen in decades.

“It is not impossible that no one gets there with the thing locked up,” he said.

Asked if Republicans are right to be concerned about the state of their GOP field against Obama, Daniels said that the concerns “originate in people’s very sincere alarm about the condition of the country and it’s direction. If it weren’t that, I don’t think you’d have quite the degree of urgency of finding someone who’s capable of presenting a winning alternative. I think it absolutely originates in a concern I share and talk about a lot, that we are in a very dangerous place and we need a very different set of policies in this country. When you overlay that on a field that hasn’t yet shown an ability to win in the fall, you get what you’ve got.”
