Confusión

Después de un día de especulaciones que apuntaban un anuncio para mañana por la tarde en Atlanta, un portavoz de Newt Gingrich ha declarado que su jefe no tiene intención de anunciar nada en las próximas horas.

(...) Newt Gingrich's political organization issued a statement late Tuesday night that the former House Speaker will not announce a presidential exploratory committee on Thursday, after Gingrich advisers had spent the whole day confirming just that to numerous news organizations.

The statement released by Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler — coming over eight hours after the first reports that Gingrich planned to take a big step toward a 2012 candidacy by setting up the committee — said "he will NOT announce the formation of an exploratory committee" while in Georgia on Thursday.

The aide said "much speculation in the press" required the "clarification."

His statement came after Gingrich sources confirmed to multiple news organizations — including POLITICO, CNN, Fox News and ABC — that the former House speaker was planning to publicly reveal he was setting up the exploratory committee.

Longtime Gingrich adviser Joe Gaylord confirmed those plans on the record to the The Des Moines Register — a story Tyler included in his late-night release as an example of a "significantly inaccurate statement."

"Speaker Gingrich’s long-standing visit to Georgia on Thursday has been on his schedule for months," Tyler said. "As a senior fellow of the American Enterprise Institute, Gingrich will participate in the Annual AEI World Forum. He accepted that invitation last spring." (...)

Los colaboradores de Newt Gingrich descartan ahora que mañana jueves anuncie la creación de un comité exploratorio cuando ayer martes lo filtraron a la prensa. Incluso se informó que el actual gobernador de Georgia Nathan Deal iba a estar en la presentación.
